When, with unprecedentedly empty calendars and plenty of energy, four musicians in Washington Heights began congregating outside to play string quartets that were little-known or yet to be performed. Five years later, the Quartet (today comprising violinists Monica Davis and Yezu Woo, violist Angela Pickett and cellist Laura Metcalf) pays homage to six pieces that have been with the group from their earliest days. The Quartet’s founding desire to give voice to unheard music is transmitted here across these individual, heartfelt works, each an unyielding statement of identity and resilience. Encapsulating the soulful playing and partnerships that have become synonymous with The Overlook’s name and ethos, Say It is a potent declaration of contemporary music’s potential and progress.
