MoVE Modern Violin Ensemble
“We were amazed by the extraordinary diversity of sounds, perspectives, and artistic voices that emerged.”
— MoVE Ensemble, The Violin Channel
About the Album
MoVE Premieres brings together twelve world-premiere works created through more than a decade of collaboration between the Modern Violin Ensemble and composers from a wide range of artistic perspectives. Built around a simple question—“What matters to you?”—the album unfolds as a tapestry of distinct voices exploring memory, identity, nature, social justice, love, and grief.
Working with the unusual instrumentation of four violins, each composer approaches the ensemble without a traditional hierarchy or established repertoire, opening the door to an extraordinary range of sounds and techniques. Extended techniques, spoken text, singing, percussion, and theatrical elements transform the familiar sound of the violin into something continually unexpected.
Across twelve works, MoVE Premieres demonstrates how a single instrumentation can become a platform for radically different musical voices—unified not by style, but by curiosity, connection, and the belief that new music begins with something worth saying.
